Thanks for everyone who participated in Comment-A-Thon. Sometimes the comments y’all left were the first a fic had received, so you may have made someone’s day. I’ll put together the recs and stats over the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy the amazing creativity of the artists and writers in the HP fandom.

And without further ado, the commission winners (picked through a random drawing) are:

Evening12 – Mad1492

snowgall – Froeken Pest

frnklymrshnkly - wizardnem

We’re now at the halfway point in Comment-A-Thon, and I hope that you have discovered some great fics and new authors. At least one participant has already FILLED ALL 40 CATEGORIES, and just think about how much author appreciation that represents.

If you feel like you’re running out of fics to read (though that seems improbable in this fandom), there are lots of rec lists out there that you can google featuring pretty much any pairing or scenario you can imagine.

@gingertodgers recently created a series of rec lists showcasing the often underappreciated women of HP. Here are the links:

Parvati Patil

Padma Patil

Cho Chang

Angelina Johnson

Alicia Spinnet

Don’t forget to leave the Fest banner when your commenting to let authors know you’re sharing the love!

Need inspiration to complete the “Something Kinky” category for your scavenger hunt? What’s kinky for one person may be plain vanilla for someone else. But have no fear! @o0o-chibaken-o0o compiled this list of fics that cover an enormous range of kinks.

From chibaken: “There are like 60 H/D fics on there, and about 25 “other pairing” fics (from Rita Skeeter/Umbridge to whomping willow gangbang I kid you not).”

So yeah.

HP Comment-A-Thon is a Scavenger Hunt. To play, participants pledge to leave comments on 10 DIFFERENT works chosen from among the Fest’s 40 official categories. Once you have left 10 comments, you will have completed your Hunt — and maybe found a new favorite genre, writer, or artist. You can complete as many Hunts as you like to increase your chance of winning a fabulous art prize. Fanworks may be slash, femmeslash, gen, or het. And this is a great opportunity to explore fics outside your reading comfort zone!

For each completed Hunt, you will be entered once into a drawing for an art commission from the one of the three featured Fest artists. So the more Hunts you complete, the more entries you will have in the drawing.

Full Fest Guidelines are here.

Submit finished Hunts here.

Need help with organization? Here is a spreadsheet to help you keep track of the fics you’ve read.

Depending on where you live, the Comment-A-Thon starts in just three days! Here are the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to I have to have read the fics I comment on during the Fest itself?

No! In fact, this is a great chance to go back and leave a comment on a fic that you’ve kept as an open tab for weeks but hadn’t gotten around to commenting on yet. Note: Only comments left during the Fest dates (October 8-21) will count towards completing your Scavenger Hunt.

I read an 8th year fic that was written in 2017 by an author new to me. Can I leave one comment for all three categories?

Your Hunt should reflect 10 DIFFERENT categories or pieces of artwork. By the same token, if you choose to submit more than one finished Hunt, please don’t submit the same 10 fics for the same 10 categories. One of the goals of the Fest is to show authors and artists how much they are appreciated, so we urge you to honor the spirit of the Fest by being generous with your commenting.

Can I submit comments for 10 different fics, all from the same category?

Sorry, a Hunt will only be considered complete if you submit 10 different works representing 10 different categories. We understand that people have different reading tastes, which is why there are 40 Hunt possibilities. This is a great opportunity to read outside your comfort zone, and we’ll be posting rec lists to help you get inspired.

Do works-in-progress (WIPs) count?

Yes! Feel free to leave comments on individual chapters for WIPs. Sometimes that kind of encouragement is just what the writer needs to make it across the finish line. However, even if you leave individual comments for more than one chapter of a fic, WIP or not, you can still only use the fic to complete ONE Hunt category.

The Drarry Discord Presents
A Harry Potter Comment-A-Thon Scavenger Hunt
October 8 - 21, 2017

2017 marks the Ten-Year Anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The popularity of The Cursed Child and the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie has energized the Harry Potter creative community, and it’s time to have a celebration.

The last Comment-A-Thon was generously hosted by @writcraft in 2015. Over the past two years, many new writers, artists, and readers have fallen down the fandom rabbit hole, and the Harry Potter community is more vibrant than ever. This Fest is all about leaving comments on fanworks and telling authors and artists how much we appreciate their hard work. And there will be a chance to win amazing art prizes!!

We are thrilled to announce that we are partnering with artists @froekenpest, @mad1492, and @wizardnem.

These three amazing artists will be creating the commissioned pieces for the winners of the drawing!
